((Yeah, it's kinda long. Consider the first part a prologue, and the part in Mid City the actual post))
Kygan smiled at the added weight hanging from her shoulders. She had just made an awesome deal with a Keepers member for some scrap. He had nearly exploded with joy when she held out the sack of junk, filled with bits and pieces of gear of varying color that she had picked up off a racetrack. So many new things he could create! The short man happily gave over the bartered sum, and then some, all too overjoyed to be able to play with so many pieces, and such a variety! Kygan was just happy because now she knew that she and Kyndl had meals for a few days, and she could pay the rent on her apartment. Plus, there may be enough left over to buy some racing gear that actually worked. Winning races meant more money. They would move up in the world.
But first they had to get out of Down City. The Dragon Eyes compound was down here, and Kygan knew that at least one of the members had to be out and about, if just returning to base from some random mission. Still, the fastest way out of this place led her perilously close to Moordryd and his goonies. But Kygan would risk it. Walking slowly along the way, they heard a weak cry, along with an evil chuckle. Kygan steeled herself against it, but she couldn't just let it be as she heard what may have been a threatening growl turn into another whimper of pain. That was enough. She turned Kyndl towards the noise, getting out her blocking staff. Racing towards it, they found a Dragon Eyes member laughing as his Dragon hit another with yet another blast of mag energy. "Leave it alone!" Kygan yelled, Kyndl throwing himself at the Psi-Class Dragon, Kygan smacking the rider in the face with her blocking staff. With a pained screech, the Black-Boned Dragon ran off, with Kygan calling behind them, "Yeah, run off to Moordryd! Tell him his evil won't be tolerated!" Kygan crossed her arms, glaring off in the direction the two had fled. Served them right. She put away her blocking staff and had Kyndl mag her to the ground. Slowly, she approached the injured dragon, holding her hands out to show that she didn't intend to harm him. At first he was wary, but recognizing Kygan as his saviour, he stepped out of the shadows, crooning thankfully. Kygan managed a weak smile, looking over the injured dragon. Even underneath the bruises, she couldn't tell what he actually was. If anything, he was a little bit of everything rather than one specific class. She reached out to touch him, but he turned away, causing Kygan to hang her head. But then he returned, gently cradling something... an egg... So that was why he wouldn't leave. He couldn't leave his child. He nudged it closer, and Kygan slowly reached towards it, watching the injured dragon to see what his reaction was. When he didn't seem hostile, she gently picked it up. In the gloom, she couldn't really see anything of the dark shell, though she could have sworn she saw a gleam of something. "Kyndl, look..." Kygan said, turning to show her dragon the egg. His usual grumpiness was gone, replaced with an indifference tinted ever so slightly with concern. "We need to..." she started, turning back to the injured dragon, but he was no where to be found. Holding the egg tightly, Kygan looked around quickly, trying to find the dragon, but she couldn't spot him. "Don't worry... I'll take care of your child..." she said softly.
The ride was fast and rough, but Kygan held the egg close, and with the assistance of Kyndl's mag, they kept the egg safe. Kygan had no idea how to care for an egg, let alone a dependent baby dragon. There were times that she could barely take care of herself and Kyndl, let alone another mouth that needed lots of care. She needed help. And there was one place she knew of that was skilled in raising dragons, and was reputable enough for her to be assured that the baby would be taken care of - Penn Stables.
It was fairly late, but she hoped that someone would still be awake. And from the stories she had heard of Connor Penn, he was a kind man, and wouldn't deny her request. They walked into the main area of the stables, looking around but not spotting anyone. Kyndl roared for attention, and Kygan called out, "Hello? Anyone! I need some help!"
